Scandinavian Tower & Turning Torso, Malmoe, Sweden. V1.0 (2003-06-12)
Models and textures by Soren H. Nicolaisen

As a flightsimmer you can have a lot of fun, experiencing places that you would probably never be able to visit in the real world. Apart from the skills you can achieve by flying, this is what I like the most in the FS Universe. In the coming FS2004 edition, Microsoft is going back in history, to the very beginning of flying. In this scenery I have chosen to go the opposite way - into the future. Now you can explore two very tall skyscrapers planned to be in Malmoe, Sweden. The models are made as close to the original drawings as possible, textured with photorealistic texture from similar (?) buildings. Enjoy to be among the first to be exploring the Tower & Torso!

Installation
This package is designed for Flight Simulator
2002. It is expected, but of course not known
if it will work in newer versions of Flight
Simulator.

Unpack the "Tower and Torso" directory to
a directory of Your choice. From the main menu
of Flight Simulator choose "Settings", then
"Scenery Library...". Press "Add Area..."
Enter the "Tower and Torso" directory and press
"OK".

I Will highly recommend You using this scenery together with the "Oresundsbron" scenery by Henrik Brovell.

Distribution

is. If You want to make changes or include it
in another package, please contact me.

This Scenery-package includes two buildings, The Scandinavian Tower and the Turning Torso. In the following, I will give a little information, on the two skyscrapers, which in the future will be known as remarkable landmarks in the entire Copenhagen-Malmoe Oresund-region, at least one of them.

The Scandinavian Tower:

Position: N55* 34.01 E12*57.00
Scenery Complexity: Normal
Modelling tool: GMax
Visible at 30 km.
The exact position is unfortunately unknown to me, but I'm convinced that the chosen position is very close to where the tower is going to be situated, if...
Textures: From The Company House, Copenhagen, Copenhagen Airport, The Black Diamond (Royal Library in Copenhagen), and an antenna in the northern parts of Copenhagen.

Finding the Tower. I would recommend you to start at the Copenhagen Airport (EKCH), and fly toward the Oresundbridge heading east. Once over the Sound, you will soon see the Tower fading in, on the Swedish side. You could also start your flight at Malmoe Sturup airport (ESMS). If so, fly in western direction, towards Malmoe City.

The Turning Torso:

Position: N55* 37.84 E13*01.84
Scenery Complexity: Normal
Modelling tool: GMax
Visible at 30 km.
Textures: Copenhagen Airport, and windows from a building in Ishoj, South of Copenhagen, and the original logo, from the Turning Torso homepage.
The building is actually situated in the Northern harbour area of Malmoe, but as the coastline has not yet been corrected (which I plan to do soon), the building seems to be further away from the quay in the FS2002, than it will be in the real world.

Finding the Torso. Once you have localized the Scandinavian Tower, fly north-east towards the Northern Harbour area of Malmoe. You should then be able to see the Torso from the Tower if you look to the north, and the opposite way around, You can see the Tower from the Torso - of course.

The Scandinavian Tower.
Architect: Gert WindgÄrdh

Groundbreaking: Not decided
Finished: App. Two years after the groundbreaking.
Client: Arthur Buchardt, (yer Invest AS, Norway (investor)
User: Le Meridien

The Scandinavian Tower will (if built) be the tallest building in Europe! The height will be 325 meters (274 without the antenna). It will be located in the HyllievÄng, Brostaden, in the Southern part of Malmoe, which is the third biggest city in Sweden.

The unique position close to the Oresund-Bridge (openened in June 2000), and the major Copenhagen International Airport, which can be reached by train or car in less than 15 minutes, and within the expanding Copenhagen-Malmoe Oresund-Region, made the Norwegian entreneur, Arthur Buchardt, chose this location in Scandinavia, for the ambitious project.

The Tower will have an area of 76.000 m2, and will contain a mixed development of flats offices and app. 700 hotelrooms. At ground level, You will find a "Scandinavian Village" with shops, restaurants and even a large pool-area too!

Construction: Vertical pillars of concrete and diagonal beams of steel. The building will be prefabricated in as large extent as possible.

Facade: The whole facade consists of glass, transparent, frosted and opaque.

As a consequense of the terror attack on the WTC, there might be some changes in the plans for this skyscraper. The big question is whether people really want to live in such tall buildings in the future? Maybe it will only be one tenth of the heights, but when these lines are written, it's still unknown to me. Reducing the size of the tower that way, would absolutely remove any interesse in the project, so I really hope that this wonderful construction will be build, the way it was planned at the first, but only the future will give that answer. At least, now you - as a flight-simmer - will be among the first to enjoy the beautiful/ugly structure.

The Turning Torso.
Architect: Santiago Calatrava

Groundbreaking: 14th. February 2001
Finish: Spring 2005
Building for Residential use.

The Turning Torso will reach the height of 190 metres, and become the tallest residential building in Northern Europe. The construction consists of 9 identical cubes, each containing 5 stores, and a triangular part, turning 90 degrees, on its way up. All inclusive, the building will have 54 stores. There will be 150 flats in the building.
The architectural expression has the inspiration from the human body, in a turning movement.

From the flats in the upper end of the building you will have a stunning view of the entire Malmoe City, and the Oresund-Bridge, linking the two Cities Malmoe and Copenhagen.

The prices for the flats is expected to reach from app. 200.000 Euros up to little less than 1 million!

Damn, I'm in!
